Beginners' Bridge - Course Information
The Club has classes for Beginners which started on the Wednesday Evening of September 16th, 2009 and on the Friday Morning of September 18th........ there is also opportunity to join them at a later date, depending on your previous experience of the game. You need NO previous experience if you start in September..... and you don't need to have a partner. To book your place email our Training Secretary Pat Murphy at tonymurfia@tiscali.co.uk or call her on 01253 734489. The next courses will start in September 2010 ,but you can enrol for them right now to ensure that you have a place.  There will be an Open Day at 2pm on a Sunday in August 2010 (date to be decided) if you want to call in and learn all about the classes and the Bridge sessions that the Club has to offer.

Clifton currently has 8 EBU (English Bridge Union) trained Teachers who will be delivering the courses using the recommended "Bridge For All" programme.   The  first lesson is FREE but at the second lesson, which is also FREE, each student will be asked to buy the EBU  "Beginning Bridge" book which will be of enormous help in consolidating what you have learned at the classes, and will give you all the basics of how to become a good Bridge player....it costs just £10 and with it comes a year's FREE membership of the EBU and free copies of their Student magazine! At the third lesson you should be convinced of what a wonderful experience a game of bridge is and you will be asked to pay £30 for the lessons of which there will be a further 8.  Because we have so many Teachers there will be several of them attending each session so that students can have more individual attention.

On Wednesday evenings we play "Simple Systems" Duplicate Bridge where questions can be asked at the end of the session about the hands played that evening.   There are also special sessions on a Wednesday and Friday afternoons which are aimed at Beginners and Inexperienced players where "Simple Systems" are used and the play is more relaxed and gentle.   As you gain confidence you will be more than welcome to join our existing members on Monday afternoons ("Simple Systems") or any of the other evening sessions when Competitive Duplicate Bridge is played to Level 3. Although these are competitive sessions, our members do appreciate the difficulties experienced by beginners and you will find them very supportive.

Improvers' Classes for the more experienced players

From time-to-time the Club offers sessions for the more experienced players on various aspects of the game such as transfers, doubling, overcalls, defending contracts.  These sessions are run by EBU-trained teachers from our Bridge Teams. The next set of lessons will be announced here in due course.
