The Rogers Trophy is
won by Wendy and Gwyn! |
|
Wendy Lake and former President, Gwyn
Roberts, produced an excellent session of Bridge
to capture The Rogers Trophy with an adjusted
score of 58.84%. They were followed home by
Chief TD Andy Cove and the evergreen Mamie
Heyworth, who is now in her 96th year, who
registered 56%! Current President Olive
Somerville and her partner, Roger Moore, picked
up the 3rd place Prize Money with 55%. 12 pairs
played in a very close competition which saw 4
pairs within 4% of each other at the top.
Peter Plant and Paul Holgate had the highest
gross percentage (62.22%)but lost out when the handicaps
were applied. Another great night....and thanks
again, Andy, for the excellent organisation!.

The Spring Social was a
huge success! |
|
The Spring Social, held on May 23, was
a huge success once again with a full house
enjoying a wonderful buffet, an excellent
evening's Bridge and some pleasant conversation.
Before the competition we sat down for the
wonderful food provided by the ladies of the
Club, which was absolutely first class.....how
you ladies can produce such a great spread for
so little cost is beyond me.....excellent!
14 tables competed in the Bridge with Club
Chairman, Tony Murphy and his wife, Pat, winning
the North/ South section with 61.94%, followed
by Dagmar Fazackerley and John Duxbury on
60%.....and it was great to see Geoff and
Mary Gibbons winning a couple of boxes of
chocolates in 3rd....well done you two!
Mike Somerville and Terry Bunn blew the
opposition away in the East/West section with a
huge 70.28% ! You could understand runners up
Gwyn Roberts and Gordon Acton, and 3rd placed
George Winstanley and Mary Irving feeling
somewhat bemused as their percentages would
easily have most other competitions!
A huge thank you to the ladies for the
excellent buffet, to Keith Bates for purchasing
all the prizes and a big thank you to
Tournament Director, Andy Cove (who is
currently sporting
the biggest smile ever since Blackpool fought
their way into the Premiership!) for the
brilliant organisation!

Mamie, Dagmar, John and
Andy win the Alan Barker Teams' Trophy |
|
95 year-young Mamie
Heyworth is a winner yet again, this time playing with
Dagmar Fazackerley, Andy Cove and John Duxbury
to take The Alan Barker Teams' Trophy. Despite a
handicap of -40 the Team still finished 42 IMPS
ahead of their nearest rivals, Lily Harrison,
Gwyn Roberts, Terry Bunn and Mike Somerville. It
was nice to see Sue Gott and Lesley Cooper, from
last year's Beginners' Class, take 3rd prize
alongside Team players Ruth Holt and Dave
Johnston. Geoff and Mary Gibbons, who played
with Diane Newark and Jackie Hales were a
commendable 4th.
