Great turn out for the Mixed Pairs and Flitch Trophy on August 10th

Margaret said she just wanted to do something for such a nice Club....much appreciated, Margaret!  Elizabeth was thanked for presenting all the prizes and Chief Tournament Director Andy Cove was thanked for his excellent organisation of the evening.

It's the Murphys and the Cass's at the Summer Social

Another big turn out of 23 pairs contested the Summer Social with Tony and Pat Murphy winning the North/South Competition and Pauline and Tom Cass winning the East/West.  Andy and Mamie followed the Murfs home with John and Dagmar coming in 3rd.  In the East/West competition Barbara Fenton and Phoebe Rostron finished just 1% behind the Cass's with Keith and Rhona Bates finishing in 3rd.  It was nice to see some of the qualifiers from the Friday and Wednesday Beginners Classes having such a good time at the Evening at which there was the most magnificent buffet  included in the price !  Phoebe Rimmer and Tom Graves won the prize for getting the first Slam contract, whilst Kath Jolin and Jean Shepherd won the prize for getting the first "doubled" contact down.  The only prize not won was the first to win a trick with the 2 of Clubs when it was not a trump....but I suspect everyone was having such a wonderful time that they forgot about that!  The Chairman thanked Chief TD Andy Cove for organising such a wonderful evening and everyone went home reflecting on another excellent Evening at the Bridge Club.
Diane and Bob win the first one!
Congratulations to husband and wife team Diane and Bob Fraser who stormed to victory in the inaugural "get to know the beginners" session on August 3rd.  Diane is a beginner but Bob is a great player and together they scored a superb 68% to finish 15% ahead of the opposition!  Two of the regular Club players, Lily Harrison and Terry Bunn finished 2nd equal with Mary Irving and beginner, Diane Newark.  These "meet the beginners" competitions are to be held on the first Sunday evening of each month....so come along and say "hello" at the next game which will be on September 7th.
